Dr Yuen obtained his PhD in Fire Dynamics and Engineering from the University of New South Wales. He joined the Department of Building and Construction at the City University of Hong Kong in 1990. He worked for General Electric Company (Hong Kong) Limited and Hongkong Electric before taking up the lecturership in the Department of Building Services Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is a Chartered and Registered Professional Engineer and member of various professional bodies including the HKIE, CIBSE and IEAust. He teaches Built Environment, Fire Engineering and Building Services Engineering. Dr Yuen is the Programme Leader of the BEng (Honours) in Building Services Engineering (Full-time) degree programme. He has been engaged in consultancies for both private and public sectors in the areas of fire safety engineering, building energy studies and auditing, and building thermal system modelling studies. His research interests include fire safety and engineering, pyrolysis and combustion, applications of computational fluid dynamics, neural network modelling applications in fire engineering, building energy conservation, lighting and ventilation, HVAC systems and indoor air quality. He has also been involved in various professional activities including participation in Working Group on Fire Safety Engineering Approach, Buildings Department.
